Olson is a seasoned entrepreneur, executive and author. During his executive management
career, Richard spent time in commercial banking, mortgage banking, telecommunications,
and retail. He orchestrated multiple mergers
and acquisitions and had an affinity for developing strategic partnerships because of what
others described as his ability to treat them like personal relationships. Most
recently Richard headed a group in acquiring controlling interest of a publicly traded
Nasdaq telecom distribution and service company. He
turned the company around from losses of over $1million annually, to profitability through
building a network of 64 locations in 27 states, thus placing it in the top 10 companies
in its industry. The final year he was with the company, The Denver Post ranked Richard
in the top fifteen most effective CEO’s in the state based on return to shareholders. Throughout
his career, Richard mentored his employees in both business and finding balance in their
lives. He recognized early on that the people
he worked with were mothers, fathers, artists, little league coaches, or hikers first and
foremost. Because of this, Richard
adopted a style of management that honored the individual as well as the company’s
objectives. He accomplished this
through his memos, staff meetings, and personal dialogue.
Employees and other strategic partners of the company began to keep his memos for
their inspirational value and meaning. Richard was troubled when he saw many
people he encountered in business separate their spirituality from their daily activities
including their work. Also troubling was the
imbalance he witnessed and experienced among career, family, and personal growth.
His personal journey led him to believe that this did not have to be the case when
you lived with an awakened soul. It
is through this experience that Richard founded Awaken
The Soul
to bring his message of discovering balance in our everyday life to individuals and
to businesses. He has combined his own
spiritual quest in his mentoring, consulting, speaking and writing from a non-sectarian
viewpoint. His published weekly messages are
now read throughout the United States and internationally.
